Pharmacological properties
АТСvet Index QJ51R -combinations of antibacterials for intracisternal administration. QJ51RV01 - antibacterials and corticosteroids.
Marbofloxacin is a synthetic chemotherapeutic agent of fluoroquinolone group. Marbofloxacin has bactericidal action against gram-negative and gram-positive microorganisms, namely: Staphylococcus spp., Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhimurium, Citrobacter freundii, Enterobacter cloacae, Serratia marcescens, Morganella morganii, Proteus spp., Klebsiella spp., Shigella spp., Pasteurella spp., Haemophilus spp., Moraxella spp., Pseudomonas spp., as well as mycoplasma (Mycoplasma bovis, M. hyopneumoniae). The drug inhibits the activity of the enzyme DNA gyrase, resulting in impaired DNA replication and bacterial cell protein synthesis.
Trimethoprim is a broad-spectrum antibacterial of the diaminopiryrimidine group. It is effective against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms (Escherichia coli, Klebsiella spp., Salmonella spp., Pasteurella spp., Enterobacter spp., Proteus spp., Shigella spp., Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Haemophilus spp., Chlamydia spp.), as well as toxoplasma and coccidia. The mechanism of action consists in inhibition of bacterial reductase of dihydrofolic acid.
Prednisolone is a corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory, antiallergenic, desensitizing and antiedemic action.
Administration
The drug is used for treatment of cattle with clinical and subclinical mastitis during lactation caused by microorganisms sensitive to drug components.
Heat the syringe tube on water bath before use to 35-38°С and shake intensely.
The contents of one syringe tube are injected into the teat canal of the affected quarter of the breast, pre-milked and disinfected. After administration, this quarter is massaged for uniform drug distribution. The procedure is repeated twice with an interval of 12 hours. Treat until complete clinical recovery (1-4 days).
Contraindications
Do not administer to animals with individual hypersensitivity to any active ingredient of the drug as they may cause allergic reactions.
Precautions
Milk may be consumed in 3 days following the last drug administration. Milk, obtained before the mentioned term shall be fed to non-productive animals or utilized depending on a veterinary physician’s recommendation.
