Pharmacological properties
ATCvet QP51A, antiprotozoals (ATCvet QP51AX14, decoquinate).
Decoquinate is an antiprotozoal compound, belonging to the group of 4-hydroxyqionoline, effective against Eimeria spp. and Toxoplasma spp. Decoquinate inhibits eimeria growth in the beginning of their development cycle, resulting in decrease in morbidity and mortality rates among animals. The exact mechanism of action is unknown.
If administered orally, the drug makes effect primarily in digestive tract. It poorly absorbs and is excreted primarily unchanged in feces. Therefore, the drug residues in blood are minor and are quickly excreted.
